The Villages

Bow Broom

I had never heard of Bow Broom before I began the research for these pages and still know nothing about it. Ray has been in touch and has let me know that "Bow Broom was a small village on a hill between Mexborough, Swinton and Wath. It is now an area of Swinton adjoining the Dearne Valley College and Manvers development. It is now marked locally only by the name of the local Working Men's Club the "Bowbroom Club" and in local parlance the bridge between Mexborough and Swinton at the Northern end is called the Bowbroom Bridge".

Piccadilly

Piccadilly appears to consists of housing estates.

St Margaret's Church, Church Street, Swinton
The church which is situated on a hill above the village is in the Early-English (1200 - 1290) style. The tower dates from 1817 but the church was rebuilt in 1897 after it was damaged by fire. The remains of the original Norman chapel can be found behind the church.
