village image The term 'Rotherham Villages' is all-encompassing. In fact the 'villages' can be hamlets with a few houses, decent size villages that deserve the name, areas that have a name but have never really been villages, housing estates and towns in their own.

For those of you who might wonder just how I have sorted these into sections there is method in my madness. Originally I was going to review the areas of the Borough ward by ward as it easy to get your hands on list of wards, but who knows which is Park or St Johns? As these do not appear on most maps its a mystery to me let alone anyone else. Any road I settled on using the A-Z Sheffield Street Atlas. Villages named there in capitals are shown here in capitals, whilst those listed under "including" are those in bold lower case. So there - if you have any bones to pick please don't pick them with me.

As for the villages - they have been grouped on the pages roughly according to area. You may take exception to these groupings - Hard ched!

My knowledge of and information about some of these areas is sketchy. Equally I can't guarantee that the information is up to date. I would like to expand many of these pages and I need your help. So if you live in any of these villages and would like to contribute:-

I have been having a long natter with an old work colleague who lives in Braithwell. After much persuasion, not to mention a good old kick up the bum, I have agreed to add this section.

Villages in the Doncaster area that are almost in Rotherham - Braithwell - Clifton - Micklebring - Stainton.

Villages in the Barnsley area that are almost in Rotherham - Bolton-upon-Dearne - Dearne - Goldthorpe - Thurnscoe and Thurnscoe East.
