New York
New York was once a busy area of industry but many of these have now shut down and the place is very run down except for the logistics company compound. This may be closed now as Gloystarne have gone to the wall: part seemed to be occupied in April 2009. There are ambitious plans afoot to regenerate and redevelop this and the surrounding areas.
Guest & Chrimes on Don Street built in 1857. The company shut down quite a while ago and as far as I know the building has not been occupied since. I understand that the 'frontage' of the building though not the whole building has listed status. Tesco have been trying and failing to get permission to build a new store on this site.

There was also talk of Supertram running along here but it seems that this not so bright idea has been temporarily squashed if not yet scuppered. In 2006 the Government, God bless 'em, has turned down funding for the extension of Supertram. In September 2007 Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council have published plans to build a new town hall and council offices on this site.
In January 2010 work has commenced on this site and the JCBs seem very busy. The new Rotherham United Stadium is to be built here.
