Ferham House
Ferham House is situated in on Kimberworth Road, Masbrough, Rotherham. It is a good example of a small anglo-palladian villa, built in 1787 by John Platt of Rotherham. I am not at all sure about the number of incarnations it has been through but it has grade II listed building status.
Jonathan Walker (1756/7 - 1807) who was a member of the Walker iron and steel family lived at Ferham House.
According to the 1861 Census Ferham House was the home of William Fretwell Hoyle (a solicitor) and his family, who owned Hooton Levitt Hall at Maltby. They had left before 1881 and it became the home of the Habershon family in the 1880s.

In December 1920 Ferham House was a 12 bedded Municipal Maternity home, opened to compliment the Rotherham Workhouse maternity ward. This was long before the NHS and people had to pay for their medical treatment but stays of up to 15 days for mother and baby were free here.
When I remember Ferham House there was a dental clinic on the premises where I had some of my teeth removed about 1960. The rest if the property was used for something else: don't remember what exactly. Somebody has mentioned a single mothers' refuge.
Ferham House has been completely and sympathetically restored by its current owners Athorpe Health Care Ltd. It appears there are several parts to it including a nursing home, a private care home called Fairwinds for adults with mental health problems and another called Lonnen Grove for people with learning disablities.
