Laughton Castle

In the field behind the church called Castle Hill are the remains of a motte and bailey castle from Saxon times.

Church Corner

Church Corner is a little lane next to the church with some old properties including cottages which in part date back to the 1400s. They are all private homes and cannot be visited. The Old Hall is situated along here.

Laughton's Public Houses

The Hatfield Arms is now closed and in 2011 planning permission is being sought to convert it into dwellings amd also to build in the gardens. The St Leger didn't look in a much better state.

The Elizabethan School, Laughton-en-le-Morthen

The school was built in Elizabethan times. The weekly fee was one penny which was much too expensive for many of the local families.

With an extension of the back it is still a primary school today.

Laughton's Farms

Old Hall Farm

Old Hall Farm buildings date back to the 1500s. The farm was adjacent to the Hatfeild family home where the Wise Virgin of Laughton lived. The gateway dated 1742 approximately 30 metres to North West of Old Hall Farmhouse is a Grade II listed structure.

Manor Farm

This building at Manor Farm is from the 19th Century and stands on the site of the earlier manor house owned by the Eyre family. I have to say I'm no great expert but, looking at the style of building, I would say that it seems of much earlier date.
