There are still quite a few weed infested plots where the ghosts of of old mills and works linger but these are being snapped up and new modern units built on them. These rejoice in stirring names like 'The Centurion Business Park' or those that quest for authenticity like 'The Bessemer Business Park'. Magna Science & Adventure Centre can be found here but the outside of the building is really not much to look at. This was former Steel, Peech and Tozer steel works at Templeborough. Blackburn Meadows Nature Reserve can be accessed just a bit further along from the Magna car park. So the only pictures that I have are the artworks that adorn the area.
Statue of the Phoenix in the middle of the Symphony roundabout. Sculptor Barry Hague c.1992.

Detail of the Phoenix mural opposite the statue at the Symphony roundabout. This was painted in 1994 by H. Fox from a design by Kate Grey and Katie Wade.

If you feel like getting all philosophical the Phoenix has a dual meaning here. The Phoenix Steel Works occupied a large site nearby until it was melted back into scrap so the subject is in memory of this. Also both statue and mural are meant to symbolise the rebirth of Rotherham. And that's as philosophical as I'm every likely to get.
