The Gardens of South Yorkshire
There are nine gardens open to
visitors in South Yorkshire. It was one of my New Year's Resolutions to visit them all as one of my projects for 2006. I have managed to get the idea off the ground with a visit to
Wortley Hall and Gardens but it remains to be seen if I visit any more. In 2007 I've visited a few more so there is a bit of information for you.
Gardens Trails
Once a year some of the gardens in the pretty village of Thorpe Salvin are open for charity each July as the Thorpe Salvin Garden Trail. From 2006 I have also seen details of a garden trail open at Swinton.
List of Gardens
More about Sheffield Botanical Gardens.
There is a full programme of events held in these gardens from plant fairs and car rallies to craft fairs and concerts. Contact Sheffield Tourist Information Centre on 0114 2211900 or contact the gardens direct.
The National Gardens Scheme
The National Gardens Scheme coordinates Gardens Open for Charity all over the country usually during the summer months. These are private gardens not usually open to the public, but which have special features or plant collections. Visit the website www.ngs.org.uk and search for the details for 2008 under Garden Visiting as I cannot link to the searched page.
