Doncaster
The borough of Doncaster is very widespread from Tickhill in the south to Thorne in the north. Much of the land around Doncaster is very flat, some of it is below sea level. Doncaster was once a very important market town with a large cornmarket, livestock market and bloodstock sales. You could smell the scent of dung a mile off on market days. The area around the market and market hall was absolutely chocabloc with taverns, alehouses and inns open all day market day for the fellows up from the farms. Most of this is gone now and the character of the town has gone with it. There is a vast industrial tract to the north east where many of the firms manufacture tractors and farm machinery. Like most towns Doncaster has its nice areas and those not so nice. Doncaster has a lovely parish church; I have seen it many times and I have passed it many times but I've never been for a look around.
