town imageRotherham is twinned with St Quentin, France. I have also discovered that Rotherham is a partnership town with Riesa in Germany whatever that means. I can find nothing about this at all on the Rotherham Online website so I have had to go hunting elsewhere. According to Wikipedia on Rotherham and indeed, Wikipedia on Kaiserslautern, Rotherham and Kaiserslautern are twin towns but thus far I have found no other information about this.

Whilst out and about I have noticed, on road signs, that various other parts of Rotherham are twinned with other towns. Unfortunately I have been travelling too fast to read them properly. To add to the insult I have been unable to find out anything at all about these twinnings via the internet so I am going to have to tear my fingers away from my keyboard, hoist my butt out of my seat and go and find out.

I believe that the twin town of Wath upon Dearne is St. Jean de Bournay which is none too far from Lyon in the Rhone Valley, but there are many, many St Jeans and I could have got it wrong. I have been Googling but have managed so far to find very little information.

The twin town of Wickersley since 1996 is Öhringen, Germany.

If you are interested in Rotherham's twin town projects the project officer was, last I heard, Natilie Hunter, Chief Executive's Office, Eric Manns Building, Moorgate Tel. 44 (0)1709 382121 (RMBC Switchboard) (Feb 2007).
