Grove Road
Grove Road is yet another of those famous Rotherham dead ends. It has barely merited a mention in any of the books that I have read about Rotherham but must have been an important street in its day. The old Rotherham Rural District Council offices are located here and there are a number of very nice old houses round the back including one called Broxbourne which is the HQ for the Rotherham Scouts. Most of the others seem to be offices these days.
In 2007 the end of Grove Road is still a dead end to through traffic but the further development of Moorgate Crofts is taking place there and there seems to be builders' access.
I am hazarding a guess about the history of these buildings, but the old Rotherham Rural District Council building is opposite this side. It is possible therefore that these stables, coach houses and yard were actually a council depot in the long ago. I can't see any big house that they might have belonged to.
The other side of the coach houses forms part of a yard off Moorgate that is used by a variety of small firms.
