Islamic Places of Worship

Until the end of the Second World War Islam had hardly touched Rotherham. However after the end of the war there was settlement of men from the Indian subcontinent in Rotherham where there was work to be had. Many of these had served as soldiers in the British Army and spoke English if not Yorkshire. When established they often sent home for their wives and children. Later on their brothers, nephews and cousins came too for there was plenty of well-paid work, and they too sent home for wives. I am not sure when the first mosque was set up but I think it might have been in the old chapel at Chapel Walk, Masbrough. Other mosques have taken over disused Christian places of worship.

I am not well versed in the schisms of Islam so I don't know if these are Sunni, Shia or some other sect.
