Political Parties
Rotherham has been, for a very long time, a Labour stronghold and this is still reflected in the fact that all the Members of Parliament are Labour. There are the various constituency offices for the Labour Party. I am not sure what has happened to the Tories over the years. They used to have a most excellent club but this is now something else. Neither the Tories or the Lib Dems seem to have much of a profile around here. I've seen a few letter from UKIP supporters in the Advertiser but I do not have a contact address. If these last local elections (May 2007) are anything to go by apathy rules all round. Where I live there was not one leaflet pushed through the door, not one canvasser on the doorstep, not one car with the tannoy blaring and as far as I remember no local meetings. The candidates can't be bothered to electioneer and the electorate can't be bothered to vote.

Other Political Groups
Sad to say the BNP (British National Party) has some degree of support around here. Oh I can see where they are coming from but I don't like the way they are going. There are some very reasonable and respectable people around here who are members and this must be a reflection of how the other political parties in Rotherham fail to represent the people of Rotherham. From May 2008 Rotherham has two BNP councillors. I can't see much of a 'Green' presence or a Monster Raving Loony. I've read some articles about UKIP in Rotherham but have no contact details.
