Peter Turnbull
Writer

Another espondent has mentioned Peter Turnbull as another famous Rotherhamite. Now I'd never heard of him which is a bit of a surprise because he writes crime fiction, which is a genre I'm very fond of. I thought that I'd read at least one novel by any writer who ventured into this murky territory. Obviously not! Anyhow I ventured into Rotherham Public Lending Library and found several novels and the following information.

Peter Turnbull was born in 1950 in Rotherham, Yorkshire, but now lives in Leeds. He was educated at Herringthorpe Junior School and Oakwood Secondary School. He has had a variety of jobs, including steelworker and crematorium attendant, but for more than twelve years he has been a social worker, working in Sheffield, London, Glasgow, and, under an exchange programme, Brooklyn, New York. He is the author of over a dozen critically acclaimed crime thrillers, the ones I've browsed through seem to be set in Glasgow.

Bibliography

Deep and Crisp and Even (1981), Dead Knock (1982), Fair Friday (1983), Big Money (1984), The Claws of the Gryphon (1986), Two Way Cut (1988), Condition Purple (1989), And Did Murder Him (1991), Long Day Monday (1992), The Killing Floor (1994), The Killer Who Never Was (Non-Fiction), Embracing Skeletons (1996), The Man With No Face (1998), Fear of Drowning (1999), Deathtrap (2000), Perils and Dangers (2001), The Return (2001), After the Flood (2002), Dark Secrets (2002), All Roads Leadeth (2003), The Dance Master (2004), Hopes and Fears (2004), The Chill Factor (2005), The Legacy (2005), False Knight (2006), Fire Burn (2006), Chelsea Smile (2007), Once a Biker (2007), No Stone Unturned (2008).

I have now read Peter Turnbull's "The Justice Game" which seems to based on a screenplay. It is about a character called Dominic Rossi which is a name that has penetrated the edges of my memory and dredged up the face of Denis Lawson who I presume played him on the TV. I must confess that I found the story rather slow and contrived - I will try one of his other books before I pass further comment.
