Gervase Phinn
Writer & Raconteur
Gervase Phinn was born on 27 December 1946 in Rotherham, Yorkshire. As you can imagine it must have been fun growing up in Rotherham with a name like Gervase but somehow he survived. Professor Gervase Phinn taught in a range of schools for fourteen years before becoming an education adviser and school inspector. He is now a freelance lecturer, broadcaster and writer, President of the School Library Association for 2006-2009, a consultant for the Open University, Honorary Fellow of York St John University, Doctor of Letters of the University of Leicester, Fellow and Visiting Professor of Education at The University of Teesside. This all sounds a bit posh for a Rotherham lad.
Gervase has published four volumes of autobiography, collections of poetry and a number of books about education. He has a particular interest in children's literature and literacy and is widely known as a lively and entertaining speaker. He is married with four grown-up children.
