Dougie Brown's real surname was Dudley. He was born on 7 August 1940 in Rotherham. I thought this was spelled Duggie myself but a friend says Dougie is correct. You know what a sucker I am - I'll believe anybody. Well Duggie himself has been in touch and confirmed that I was right. That doesn't half make me feel virtuous.

His sister, known professionally as Lynne Perrie was born Jean Dudley on 7 April 1931 in Masbrough, Rotherham.

Duggie Brown

Duggie Brown courtesy of duggieFor a long time Duggie toured the clubs with the Four Imps pop group, before eventually turning professional as a comedian, regularly appearing on TV in The Comedians and The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club. He later became an actor with one of his early acting roles being in the film Kes playing a milkman alongside his real sister Lynne Perrie. No sibling rivalry there then!

He has a long list of TV credits including The 6.5 Special, The Good Old Days, Slattery's Mounted Foot, Leeds United, Say Goodnight to Grandma, Days of Hope, The Price of Coal, The House That Jack Built, Bring On The Girls, Take My Wife, Crown Court, The Combination, The Enigma Files, The Cuckoo Waltz (as himself), My Brother's Keeper, The Glamour Girls, The Hard Word, All Creatures Great and Small (two roles), The Bill, Minder, Stay Lucky, Heartbeat, Rik Mayall Presents, The Comedians Christmas Cracker, Brookside (Ray Piper), The Final Cut, Ellington, Coronation Street. He also appeared in the film "For the Love of Ada".

You can still find doing some shows around here and he seems in demand as an after dinner speaker (I know I'd prefer him any day of the week to John Major in that respect). He has a website that you can visit at www.duggiebrown.co.uk for more information and lots of interesting stuff.

Lynne Perrie

Lynne Perrie Lynne Perrie was born on 7 April 1931 as Jean Dudley and grew up in Masbrough, Rotherham. She started her career in show business as a singer under the name of 'Dizzy'. Lynne married Derrick Barksby in 1950 although the marriage has not always been happy. Lynne gave birth to a son, Stephen, in May 1951. She worked as a 'clippie' on the buses, then at the Argyle sock factory in order to support her family.

In 1956 Lynne made a comeback on the stage with new cabaret act at the Rotherham Trade Centre. After this she received many bookings. In the early 1960s she toured as a support act with such stars as the Beatles and Sacha Distel.

In 1970 Lynne appeared in the film Kes which led to her being offered the part of Ivy Tyldesley in Coronation Street. She began acting in The Street in 1971 and stayed until 1994 when her character, then married to Don Brennan, was written out of the show. There was a good deal of rumour and bad press at the time about Lynne's plastic surgery.

Since leaving Coronation Street in 1994 Lynne has had many offers but has also suffered some problems with her health. She published a kiss-and-tell book "Secrets of the Street - the book they could not BAN!" and appeared on chat shows, notably Channel 4's The Word where she sang "I Will Survive". The last I have heard of Lynne in 2001 is that she was very ill.

August 2003 - I saw an article in the papers that Lynne was much better and hoping to make a comeback.

24 March 2006 Lynne Perrie has died. We send our condolences to her family.
