Access for All
These access for all routes have a subtitle 'Miles without Stiles'. The purpose of these of these is to provide flat (ish) walks on metalled or tarmacked paths, without gates or stiles which can be accessed by everybody including those of us less physically able. Rest points are provided and some other aids will be provided on some routes.
Walk No 1 The Thurcroft Dinnington Trail
This 2 mile long trail uses the old mineral line from Thurcroft to Dinnington. It runs from Steadfolds Lane, under Laughton Common Road to Todwick Road and forms part of the National Cycle Network. There is access for walkers, cyclists and horse riders with ramps for the disabled and barriers to deter everybody's unfavourite pest, the motorcycle lout. Parking area off Steadfolds Lane. Don't forget that you have to get back there if there is no one to pick you up at the other end.
Walk No 2 The Tom Wakefield Way around Harthill Reservoir
This is a 1 kilometre trail around the reservoir. Parking area off Union Street in Harthill village (approx another ½ kilometre). You can extend the walk southwards over unmetalled paths but these are often muddy, sometimes overgrown and certainly not suitable for wheelchairs.
Walk No 3 The Trans-Pennine Trail at Wath Manvers
Part of the long-distance Trans-Pennine Trail cuts through the old pit site at Manvers and passes near Old Moor and Manvers Lake and for part of its route alongside the River Dearne.
