Motor Racing - Virgin Racing previously Manor Motorsport

By November 2011 the Virgin Racing F1 team will all have left Dinnington for the more congenial surroundings of Banbury in Oxfordshire. I understand that the Dinnington facility will be used for research and development and that the GP3 team will also be based there.

For the 2010 motor racing season Manor Motorsport, the Formula 3 motorsport racing team based in Dinnington has been promoted to F1. They made their debut at the Bahrain Grand Prix on 14 March 2010 with drivers Timo Glock and Lucas Di Grassi.

Situated in the town of Dinnington in South Yorkshire was one of the Borough of Rotherham's best kept secrets: Manor Motorsports. The successful Formula Three team was promoted to Formula One at the end of the 2009 season and joined the elite of the motor racing fraternity. Now this needs serious money and Manor Motorsports acquired Richard Branson as the main sponsor for the new brand Virgin Racing team. John Booth has become Virgin Racing's Team Principal.

Booth has also announced plans to launch a GP3 team this year who will share race shop facilities with the Virgin Formula One team at their Dinnington HQ. GP3 is a new single-seater racing category making its debut this season as a feeder series for the GP2 Series. GP3 will run alongside the GP2 championship with the inaugural race which is scheduled for the Spanish Grand Prix weekend in May.
