The Rotherham United Worship Page
I have resisted for a long time before
setting up this page. There are so many unofficial websites dedicated to the Millers that
anything I could possibly say will have been said before. Anyhow the occasion of Rotherham
United being promoted to the Division One has ensured that my arm has been twisted halfway up
my back.
Millers 2008
Rotherham United have gone into liquidation again March 2008. There are various rumours, amongst them, one that an Irish Consortium are interested in buying the Millers. As of Friday 18 April 2008 several bids have been lodged with the administrator so we shall have to wait and see if any are acceptable and viable. The new owner is Tony Stewart.
Unless there are any hitches, slips between cup and lip as it were, Rotherham United and its new owners have made a deal with Boothie about the continued use of Millmoor for the next four years. There is an option to extend for another six years pending the development of the new community stadium. Well talking about many a slip, Tony Stewart, the new owner of Rotherham United has refused to come to an agreement with the Booth family. From the start of the new season in 2008 Rotherham will play at Don Valley Stadium until the new Rotherham Community Stadium is built.
Seems like Rotherham United are now getting it in the neck from the Football League who are worried about the tenure of the ground at Don Valley. If the Football League don't like the reply they are threatening to suspend or bar Rotherham united from League fixtures. This will mean no Rotherham United. The Football League have issued a 17 point penalty to handicap Rotherham United at the start of the 2008/9 season. At least they are not the only ones. They won the first game of the season 1 0 against Lincoln.
Millers 2007
Given that they started the 2006/7 with a points penalty for going into administration the Millers were always on a bit of a sticky pitch. What with one thing and another, and I'm not going into the reasons here, it proved too sticky. Rotherham United have been relegated to Division 2 for the 2007/8 season. In addition to this the Booth family are pursuing the Millers for unpaid rent in order to regain possession of Millmoor, the Tivoli and the training ground at Hooton Roberts. The action is under consideration by the High Court but if Rotherham United lose they will be homeless and likely to fold.
A Bit of History
Rotherham United Football Club was originally formed in the 1870's as Thornhill before changing its name to Rotherham County in 1905 when the club turned professional. In 1925, Rotherham Town and Rotherham County joined forces and the club become known by its present name.
Rotherham United may well have been good at times but the club has never ranked amongst the great and prizes have been few.
1960-61 League Cup Rotherham United lost the second leg of the final 3-2 to Aston Villa despite a 2-0 lead after the first leg at Millmoor.
1980-81 The Division 3 title.
1988-89 The Division 4 title.
1996 A 2-1 victory over Shrewsbury Town in the Auto Windscreens Cup.
2000-2001 Rotherham were Runners-Up in the Second Division but gained promotion to the First Division.
2002 Congratulations on staying up.
2006 Rotherham have managed to stave off relegation. However as they went into administration
the day after the season ended they begin the new season with a ten point penalty.
2007 Relegation
Rotherham United 2005/6
Millers 2005, a supporters group took over the Club on New Year's Day 2005. The club's £3million debt was wiped out by selling Millmoor to CF Booth and leasing it back on favourable terms. The new board have acquired Ken Booth's 86% majority shareholding and are planning a rights issue within the next few months. There is still however a lot of argy-bargy about Ronnie Moore's new contract. The new men running the Millers are Chairman Peter Ruchniewicz, Trevor Smallwood, Chris Dobbs, Vice- Chairman David Veal (a class mate of the Yunga Bruvvers's - thought I knew the name - recognised the face from his photo in the Advertiser) and Finance Director John Harrison (he's an accountant anyway if he's the John Harrison I remember).
In the long term, Millers 2005 are intending that the club should move to a new community stadium within ten years. I know just the place for it if only somebody would sort out the appalling road system and heavy traffic.
Feb 2005, Ronnie Moore, the Rotherham Manager, a man more loved by the fans than the owners, has left after accepting a compensation package from Millers 2005. The youth coach Alan Knill is temporary manager until the end of the season. The post will be advertised at the end of the season so if you fancy managing the Millers now's your chance!
April 2005 Rotherham have finished near the bottom of the league and have been relegated. A new manager Mick Harford has been appointed to see what he can do with the Millers next season. Harford didn't last long and the post was taken over by Alan Knill.
Rotherham United Football club have announced in February 2006 that they are in financial trouble again. They have got the begging bowl out and are asking for the substantial sum of a million quid, or they go into liquidation.
March 2006 the club has been taken over by two keen Millers fans, Messrs Coleman and Maccio. I hope that they have better luck turning around the club's finances and putting Rotherham United back on a winning track. So far, so bad. Rotherham United went into administration so the club is not yet out of the woods.
I have been chatting to a previously very keen Millers fan. In fact the whole family were keen Millers fans. However for the 2006/7 season they were so disgusted by the price of season tickets that they did not buy any (four season tickets lost there) and are only going to an occasional game.

I am told that this is not effusive enough but it's about as effusive as I can possibly get over football. For more information visit one of these websites:-
