The Rotherham United Worship Page
I have resisted for a long time before setting up this page. There are so many unofficial websites dedicated to the Millers that anything I could possibly say will have been said before. Anyhow the occasion of Rotherham United being promoted to the Division One has ensured that my arm has been twisted halfway up my back in 2001.
New York Stadium
Building work on the new Millers stadium began in 2011. It is situated off Don Street in the New York area of Rotherham on a large site in an elbow of the Rriver Don which was formerly occupied by industry (Guest and Chrimes) and warehousing (Gloystarne) amongst others. Because of the probability of flooding the ground level has been raised. The community stadium will have a 12,000 all-seated capacity, with the option to increase it if required. It will cost around £20 million to construct. It is convenient for the railway station, and only a short walk from the town centre and the bus station. I understand that there is some car-parking and that the parking for the new Rotherham Council offices next door will be available on match days.
After much discussion about names, it was decided in December 2011, to call it New York Stadium. It a canny name and has caused the press in the USA to cover what would otherwise have been a non-event.

It is expected that the new ground and players' facilities will be open in time for the opening of the 2012/2013 season. Other work will continue later.
A Bit of History
Rotherham United Football Club was originally formed in the 1870's as Thornhill before changing its name to Rotherham County in 1905 when the club turned professional. After the First World War in 1919 Rotherham County joined the Football League, but Rotherham Town's application was turned down and they re-joined the Midland League. On May 27 1925, Rotherham Town and Rotherham County joined forces and the club become known by its present name, Rotherham United.
Rotherham United may well have been good at times but the club has never ranked amongst the great and prizes have been few.
- 1950-51 Division 3 North Championship.
- 1960-61 League Cup Rotherham United lost the second leg of the final 3-2 to Aston Villa despite a 2-0 lead after the first leg at Millmoor.
- 1980-81 The Division 3 title.
- 1988-89 The Division 4 title.
- 1996 A 2-1 victory over Shrewsbury Town in the Auto Windscreens Cup.
- 2000-2001 Rotherham were Runners-Up in the Second Division but gained promotion to the First Division.
The Millers played all their home games at Millmoor in Rotherham from 1907 to 2008, but moved temporarily to the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield whilst a new stadium in Rotherham was being built.

I am told that this is not effusive enough but it's about as effusive as I can possibly get over football. For more information visit one of these websites:
