Angling is a very popular pastime in Rotherham. Fishing
facilities exist in the Country Parks. You can also fish on the various rivers and canals around here but the rights are usually owned by some club or other, though I believe you can
buy day tickets for some of them. Fishing in the Fitzwilliam Canal, administered by Rotherham Borough Council Amenities and Recreation is free but so much rubbish is left there that a
charge may be imposed to fund the cleaning - up. I have to say here that whilst the anglers are partly guilty MOST of the rubbish is left by boys who use the area as a social club and
leave their cans and their KFC wrappers behind. The lakes at Wentworth are very popular too.
Fishing is a sport that has not appealed to me since I passed the minnow stage, but my father spent a great deal of his life asleep on a river bank. As and when I obtain details of the various fishing clubs I will post them on this site. Rotherham & District Angling Federation seem to be the covering organisation but I have no contact number. Don't forget you need your rod license which can be purchased at the Post Office.
Angling Clubs
"I've created a website for the Ravenfield Ponds fishery.... My website address is www.ravenfieldponds.co.uk. Email stuart.sotheranattiscali.co.uk or stuart.sotheranatcorusgroup.com (remember to change at to @)."
I have no details for any other fishing clubs though there are more in the borough.

The South Yorkshire School of Game Fishing
The School has been running since 1996 and is based mainly at Rotherham's Thrybergh reservoir from the end of March to the end of October each year. During the close season, lessons are given at various other locations, dependent upon weather conditions. The reservoir is a well stocked trout fishery run by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.
