Cricket in Rotherham is not the popular sport it used to be in my youth when a summer's day was not complete without men in white flannels and the clunk of wood on willow. Many employers used to support or subsidise cricket teams but in the present day and age I don't expect that this has continued. You see very few games on Herringthorpe Playing Fields now although there are plenty of youths having a bit of fun.
