This will teach me to abide by my own rules. I've said for many years that Christmas meals are overpriced and crap. The Christmas Sunday Lunch at Le Bistro was indeed both overpriced and crap.
Just under £17 for three courses doesn't sound bad value. However the Pedant sent his starter of fishcake back with only one bite out of it as he rated it absolutely awful. I've known him for over 30 years and he's never done that before so it must have been awful indeed. The Yunga Bruva was left unimpressed with his goat's cheese: my starter of smoked salmon and prawns was acceptable.
We all had beef for the main course and I can say that this was probably the worst meal we had eaten out all year. Quality was poor, quantity was scant (all vegetable came on a small side plate and SMALL was the operative word). There was a carrot and parsnip mash and once again the Pedant got the short straw for his portion was carrot and parsnip lumps. The Pedant and I had been out about 10 days before to The Pastures at Denaby so we had something recent to compare it with and the midweek lunchtime roast dinner was far, far superior at The Pastures.
Puds were rated OK, although I reckoned the crust on my lemon pannacotta left a lot to be desired.
Wine was about £17 and fairly boring: large Coke £1.35.
It would take wild horses to drag the Pedant back here for another meal.
