Coronation Park
& Muglet Lane Recreation Ground, Maltby
The park was created in 1953 to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. I lived in Maltby for some years but I have to confess that I never visited here. There is a general recreation area with floral displays. The park is quite small for it covers just over 2 and a half hectares. There was also once a fish pond here which led to the local alternative name of Fish Park.
According to my espondent Brian :-
"Your comment that Coronation Park was built in 1953 is way out. It was built in the 1930's by Maltby Urban District Council as Muglet Lane Recreation Ground and renamed Coronation Park for Queen Elizabeth's Coronation in 1953. There was a pre war photograph of the tennis club taken there before the war published in the Maltby News last month."
"I have just found the following quotation in the Maltby Urban District Council's 1935 Silver Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary Souvenir Booklet.'July 29th, 1930. -The Council placed on record their thanks to the Central Miners' Welfare Committee for approving of the provision of the Muglet Lane Recreation Ground'."
