The
Unofficial WebsiteRoche Abbey Woodlands
Four areas of woodlands surrounding Roche Abbey are included in the site of
special scientific interest. These are Nor Wood, Quarry Hills, Grange Wood and the largest,
King's Wood.
All the woodlands are owned by the Sandbeck Estate and crossed by public and concessionary
footpaths. No climbing is allowed.
It is some years since I went walking here but I remember it as a very pleasant spot. Even more pungently I remember the smell, did I say smell, I mean stench, of ramsons on the morning air.
