LNRs
Local Nature Reserves

parks image These reserves are notified by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council in consultation with English Nature in order to protect sites of local importance for nature conservation, education and amenity. The local authority must either own or have a legal interest in the land before a LNR can be declared. Although LNRs have no direct statutory protection, management rules or bye-laws can be used to control damaging activities. Sites may be declared LNRs for the protection of flora, fauna or geographical and physiographical features of special interest.
