Gambling
I have read that gambling is the fastest growing leisure activity in Britain. There is no racecourse or casino in Rotherham in which you can fritter away your hard-earned dosh - you can go to Doncaster or Sheffield for those things. There used to be a greyhound track but this closed a long time ago, though there are unverified rumours that the Booth family intend going to the dogs in the redevelopment of Millmoor (the old Rotherham United ground).
Betting Shops
However there are plenty of betting shops and not all of them are the sawdust-strew, spittoon infested, smoky holes they used to be. Gosh some of them even have coffee machines and seats these days - they may even have ladies loos! I am not going to list them all here, but there is one on a street near you.
Bingo
Then there are bingo clubs:
I'm sure that there must be some other local bingo halls still in operation but if so I have not found them.
Bingo is played in most of the working men's clubs as well. There are plenty of these in the phone book. Some of these operate a strict members, associate members and their guests policy - some do not. Some say new members welcome. It's probably best to phone up and check before going.
