Recreation
It seems to be the fashion amongst visiting and even some non-visiting 'celebrities' to take the mickey out of Rotherham. I name no names but I'm sure that you know who they are. Whatever its faults and I'll concede there are some, Rotherham is a place where there is plenty to do if you look around. It is also a town where many people sit on their butts and spend half their time complaining there is nothing to do because they can't be bothered to look around, but I suppose that this is a form of recreation in itself.
I have classed a variety of pastimes under the general heading 'Leisure' because I definately could not classify them as 'Sport'. Please visit Leisure in Rotherham to have a look at these, and you will notice if you look carefully, that there is really very little leisure involved in some of these activities.
Even though many public houses have closed down within the last decade or so Rotherham both the town and the borough, still have plenty of alehouses. There is a section covering Rotherham's Parks & Green Spaces which looks at the various country parks and urban parks within the borough. The local nature reserves and sites of special scientific interest are mentioned here as well a look at some of the woodlands and wetlands.

Sport is a very serious matter to most of the men in Rotherham and a large percentage of the women too. Visit Sport in Rotherham for a look at the sporting activities on offer in the borough.
The town and borough of Rotherham has some very good paths and trails, but is what is walking? Is it sport? Only very rarely! Is it leisure? Not in my book! Is it entertainment? Not usually though it has been known! However you can find the Walking in Rotherham pages in Recreation as it seemed the most appropriate place for it.
