Rotherham Walking Festival

The walking festival was always highly successful but fell prey to the Council's budget slashing in 2011. It remains to be seen if it will be held in future years.

No Walking Festival has been organised in Rotherham for 2011. The sponsored Rotherham Round Walk organised by the Rotary Club will be held on Sunday 1 May 2011 now it no longer needs to fit in with RMBC. Visit their website for full information. This will be followed by a nationwide Walk4Life week from 7 -14 May 2011.

The Rotherham Walking Festival began in 1999 and has been successfully held every year since them except for the time of Foot and Mouth disease. There is a week or more of guided walks around the borough taking in picturesque countryside, local attractions and places of interest. There is something for everyone including nature and Heritage Trails and events for ramblers, walkers and staggerers like me, with something for all ages, interests and levels of ability. There were a wide variety of events organised for 2010 including Guided Walks, Entertainment, Special Events, Boat Trips, Fayres, Crafts: far too many to list here. The festival hosts numerous walks with a mixture of lengths in time and distance, for varying abilities from easy walks to hard rambles.
