Rotherham Children's Festival
The Children's Festival has now become a major events covering four weeks with a variety of events for all children. The festival will take place at Magna, starting on 18 June 2012 with the Festival Opening and Picture This! Exhibition. It will close with the Roscars on 13 July 2012.
Some of the Events
- Games Britannia bring a whole host of Computer Game focused events to Rotherham.
- Nursery Rhyme Sing-along-athon - Young children joined childminders, nurseries and Foundation Units to try and create the biggest ever group in Rotherham singing Nursery Rhymes together and the most number of nursery rhymes/action songs sung in a period of time.
- Picture This Exhibition - creative work from local schools inspired by a sporting Olympic London theme in celebration of the UK Olympic year.
- Roscars - The annual 'Oscars style' awards ceremony for school pupils' work this year sees new categories: Video/Animation, Music/Performance, Art/Performance and Creative Writing to encourage wider participation. All entries should be based on the Olympic Themes - Courage, Determination, Equality, Excellence, Friendship, Inspiration and Respect.
- Rotherham Book Awards - the 12th annual awards with winners chosen by children and young people in Rotherham.
- RotherMunch Challenge - encouraging healthy eating among young people.
- Rotherham Can Dance - A dancing extravaganza where different styles are taught, showcased and everyone is encouraged to get up and give it a go.
- Shakespeare Festival - 11 nights of Shakespeare performed and produced by Primary School children with support from the Open Minds Theatre Company and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
