Rotherham Highlights

There are a number of regular events in the borough of Rotherham that bring visitors from far and wide.

The Rotherham year kicks off in February with the immensely popular Great Northern British Beer Festival previously know as the Oakwood Real Ale and Music Festival. This three day festival provides the best in beers, wines and ciders along with a variety of top quality entertainment.

This is followed by another bonanza of entertainment towards the end of April and spilling into May with the Wath Festival. Concerts feature British and International artistes mainly of the folk genre. There is a a Children's Festival, a Community Festival, Workshops, Street Performers including Wath Morris, Dancing, Craft Stalls, Hog Roast and the 200th Anniversary of the legendary bun-throwing from the church tower.

Rotherham Walking Festival is now its 12th year (think it missed Foot and Mouth year so it might only be 11th). For 2010 the event has been moved from midsummer to 8 - 16 May culminating in the Sponsored Rotherham Round walk on the Sunday. There are walks for everybody from strollers to hikers and other events.

After the quiet month of August when the theatre in Rotherham is closed and there is traditionally not so much doing because everyone is away on their holidays, September becomes very busy with Rotherham Heritage Open Day and the immensely popular Rotherham Show.

Rotherham Open Arts Festival has teetered around a bit. When it started a few years ago the various events covered the month of September but it has now moved to October.
