However you spell the word 'Culture' and I've seen it spelled almost as many ways as Shakespeare, it is not a concept that is very well understood around here. It's not something for
which you can blame people really. When each day is an out and out struggle to survive, and for a lot of people around here it was and continues to be, it doesn't leave you with the
time or the money to acquire 'Culture'.
Now I, on the other hand, have always regarded myself as a very cultured person. I've always been well regarded for my modesty don't you know! That's before I attained to nerddom of course and began to spend my life in front of a computer screen. A very bad habit I am really going to have to break. But then I am a person of compulsion and this is my present one. I suppose its just marginally better than chocolate, tobacco or alcohol. Hm perhaps not!
Whilst Rotherham is not perhaps, a hotbed for the Arts, there is, in general, a very healthy interest, partly fuelled by large grants from various sources. You can look at Art in Rotherham, meaning painting, sculpture and the like, and also various crafts at Art & Crafts.
Although I am sure that there are many, many people in town who scribble away very happily in the comfort of their own garrets "Literature" seems to be very underrepresented in Rotherham. You can visit the writers groups and obtain details about Literary Competitions that I have found in Rotherham at Literature.
The multi-talented and varied musical life of Rotherham is probably one of its best features. Whatever your taste in music you are sure to find something at Music. Rotherham is certainly no West end or Broadway but you can visit here for Theatres. There are three museums in Rotherham and you can preview them at Museums.
There are various organisations dedicated to helping artistic talent in Rotherham and the details that I have found are listed at Information about the Arts.

2008 There is a Schools' Art Project which is a joint project between Rotherham Ready, Rotherham Youth Enterprise and Rotherham Renaissance. Scools all over the borough are being asked to contribute pictures, photographs and poems. Work on display in May 2008 so get your skates on!
