Ethnic Music

There seems to be a great deal of interest in music and dance from other parts of the world in Rotherham at the moment. This may have something to do with various refugee communities in town but then again it may be that various arts organisations have been advancing money to try many different forms of 'art'.

Rotherham Ethnic Drumming (RED) previously called Oakwood African Drummers
The Oakwood African Drummers started in the autumn of 2002 and contains a great diversity of people. Their first CD entitled "Choozah!" was released in 2005.
The group have performed at the Oakwood Beer Festival, Rotherham Diversity Festival, and further afield in Rotherham's Twin Town, St Quentin, as well as London. They have won prizes at Mexborough Festival now the Don Valley Festival. They also hold workshops in schools.
Membership of the group is open to anyone over 14 years old. For more details contact Oakwood Technology College on 44 (0)1709 512222 or email gdcatoakwoodtc.org (remember to replace at with @).

If you know of any more amateur ethnic musicians in the Rotherham area please let me have details.
