Rotherham may not have any world famous orchestras, bands, or choirs but musical life in the town seems very healthy indeed. The information here is just the tip of the iceberg as I
have noticed that many of the pubs have live bands regularly or from time to time. The social and working men's clubs also have a wide choice of groups and vocalists. Tribute bands seem
particularly popular.
Several people have asked me if I know where you can learn to play an instrument or to read music. I have referred them to the small ads in The Advertiser or the Rotherham Record or to call in at the shops that sell musical instruments (visit on site at Business in Rotherham >> Rotherham Business on the Web >> Music Shops) as I've rarely seen any classes advertised. However Rawmarsh City Learning Centre is now (Sept 2005) running a 'Rock School' where young people (over 11) and adults can get free tuition for Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums and Keyboards. Visit their website at www.rawmarshclc.org.uk.
Message from Rockem:- "I noticed on your website about not having any details about where you can learn instruments - our shop Rockem Music at the Piano & Drum Centre (which is on
your website) does drum lessons - we are also known as the Yorkshire Drum School
www.yorkshiredrumschool.co.uk and have two central Rotherham locations (the shop on westgate and also clifton lane). thought that might be useful for users...."
I have also noticed that guitar lessons are available at Stringstocks on Wellgate.
