Rotherham The Unofficial Website

The Rotherham-Based Artist Vincent Snee

Vincent Snee is a Sheffield lad born in 1957. He lives and works in Rotherham so I thought I'd add a bit about him here. He held an exhibition at Rotherham Art Gallery summer 2002 and it was one of the best that I have seen there. You must understand that I do not like chocolate box art or photographic representations: certainly you will get neither of these from Vincent.

Vincent's Mission Statement:-

Vincent's Mappa
"I work on paper, using graphite, oils, printmaking inks, etc. I am influenced by among other things, cartography, chaos theory, the science of visual perception, Cubism and the artists Jasper Johns, Frank Stella and Gerhard Richter. I aim in my work to create a visual graffiti/map of my personal contemporary visual experiences. I try to engage the viewer on as many levels as possible- visual and conceptual. The work I create is personally symbolic of the ideas, concerns and obsessions of the contrasting perceptions of constraint and freedom. For me Art is one of the few areas of of human experience where the individual can still attain a level of freedom of thought that is often denied and repressed for most people. In a work of Art anything is possible...."
