Arts & Crafts
Whilst Rotherham is no Paris or London, it is a town with a very healthy artistic life. Amongst much that is pedestrian there are little gems of brilliance to be found. Rotherham College of Art has a very well-regarded Faculty of Creative Art. Certainly from the student's exhibition that I have seen over the years, whether you are looking for sheer flair, technical expertise or gifted imagination you will find them all here. If you are truly lucky sometimes you can find them all in one artist. Please visit Rotherham College of Art and Technology at Rotherham - Education - Further Education.
There is a growing interest in the Arts in general in Rotherham. This may have something to do with the pots of money that have been awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Arts Council and many other organisations charged with re-distributing Joe and Jane Public's hard earned brass. I have read somewhere that Rotherham in general and the coalfield communities in particular are regarded as deprived areas well they are not going to be deprived of 'Art' for much longer.
Now I've dabbled in some forms of art - writing, painting, photography, amongst others. Once I even put on a pinny, rolled up my sleeves and threw some clay on a potter's wheel with disastrous results they are still scraping the mess off the ceiling!
But take it from me there is no higher art form than web design and I ought to know. You can research, download, write, edit, plagiarise, plunder, draw, design, animate, and generally spend hours of fun messing around - all from the comfort of your own chair. Ok so you have to get out and shoot the photographs and pay the odd visit to the Library to find the information you can't find anywhere else but that's no so hard is it?

Art in Rotherham
At 35 different places across the town centre, the good folk of Rotherham are going to be treated to art in the form of large-format reproductions of renowned art masters, local artists and local school children. This open-air art gallery is the first one of its kind in the UK and it is hoped that it will play apart in bringing shoppers back into town. Officially opened on Friday 30 September 2011.
