Rotherham was for a very long time, something of a desert when it came competitions, artistic or otherwise. However things have changed.

Rotherham Open Art Exhibition
May not be held in 2012: so far I can find no details.
Rotherham Show
There are a few arts and craft competition classes at Rotherham Show every September, but these are for tiny prizes.
Swinton Lock Open Art Competition.
This takes place each year. So far I have been unable to find any details on the website for the current year. Visit their website at www.swintonlock.org.uk.
Art Shows
Art Shows are held from time to time and in various places around town. Sometimes individual artists hold their own exhibitions, sometimes art groups hire a church hall or similar venue. The Rotherham Society of Artists also holds an annual exhibition. Where I've found out any details these have been listed month by month in the Monthly Events Diary.
