Rotherham Railway Station
The Central Railway Station, which is not that old anyway, is being redeveloped and improved. The electrics all had to be done after the flood in June 2007 when the tracks were under several feet of water, so I guess the powers that be decided to tart up the rest. The project is being led by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) working in partnership with Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC), Network Rail, Northern, and Yorkshire Forward. Funding had come from a variety of sources including the European Regional Development Fund.

There will be a new forecourt, ticket office, passenger lounge, toilet facilities and retail space. Also there will be new lifts and stairs and the installation of CCTV cameras. The platforms will be refurbished, passenger information improved, the access road improved with a turning space, dedicated disabled bays, covered cycle stands and a taxi rank. Nothing I've read mentions car parking so I expect that it will remain in its present very restricted state or not at all if Rotherham Council, not to mention central government have their wicked ways.
Work started on site on 22 February 2010 with the construction of a temporary station. From about 20 March 2010 entry to the station will be from Central Road with no disabled access to Platform 2. People with disabilities or difficulties please contact 08081 56 16 06. The station car park will be closed throughout. It is expected that work will be complete in early 2011.
