Other Proposed Developments
Local Development Framework for Other Areas of Rotherham

These other areas in the Borough of Rotherham have been identified as suitable for large areas of development. I haven't looked at all of them closely. You can see however that major developments are planned for almost every part of town. Even where they are not planned nearby these developments are sure to impinge on YOU.

People who live in other areas of the Borough of Rotherham facing the de-classification of greenbelt areas and proposals for mass development of housing have received no such consideration. I am wrong here. Trawling the Rotherham online site today, Wednesday 29 July 2009, I found that four 'consultation' meetings were planned about this in Dinnington, Wath, The Bailey Suite and Wickersley (all dates now past). They don't seem to have been widely advertised and I wonder how many people actually turned up.

Aston, Aughton and Swallownest areas

802 new homes are proposed and 25 hectares land set aside for development of industrial and business new jobs.

Bramley and Wickersley

1,770 new homes are planned for these areas. Bramley is one massive block of housing estates already and could well do without any more.

Dinnington - Laughton Common - North & South Anston

7,123 new homes and 60 hectares land for new jobs are planned for this area.

Dinnington is identified as a Principal Town in the Yorkshire and Humber Plan, Regional Spatial Strategy to 2026, May 2008. A Principal Town should be the main local focus for housing, employment, shopping, leisure, education, health and cultural activities and facilities. The settlement grouping includes the settlements of Laughton Common, Dinnington, North Anston and South Anston.

  • Dinnington has been identified as a 'Key Focus for Change' with "Potential for significant development and step change, in terms of increasing existing population size and through enhancing the function and role of the settlement." Dinnington is a Principal Regeneration Area with pockets of very poor quality housing along Leicester Road and East Street which are situated within the Dinnington Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy Area. Some areas of land in the central area are derelict or underused, offering scope for substantial improvement.
  • North Anston has been identified as a 'Key Focus for Change' with "Potential for significant development and step change, in terms of increasing existing population size and through enhancing the function and role of the settlement."
  • Laughton Common is identified as 'High Potential for Change' "Potential for additional development to either provide a positive contribution towards improving existing sustainability or to be planned in a way which may give rise to sustainable patterns of development." This is a strategic location on the edge of the colliery site re-development at Dinnington and an opportunity to develop prominent 'gateway' sites.
  • South Anston is identified as 'Potential for Limited Change': "Not considered suitable for substantial change. Settlement may not require significant regeneration." South Anston is described as a desirable commuter village character with higher value residential profileand very little opportunity for additional development

Maltby and Hellaby

1,472 new homes are planned for this area.

Wales and Kiveton Park

1,969 new homes and 23 hectares land for jobs are planned for this area.

- 2,985 new homes and 30 hectares land for new jobs.

Wath,Brampton and West Melton

2,985 new homes and 30 hectares land for new jobs are planned for this area.
